Best food in the game
With the introduction of in the game, they are now the cheapest (per HP restored) food. It's profitable to sell meat to buy that, even. Why is it sold in such small quantities? So it would be as boring as possible to buy a good supply?

If you only look at cost per HP maybe they are the cheapest, but that does not make them the best.

Cooked perch, and smoked sausage are excellent for the sustenance offered. Combine it with goat milk and you won't need the potions. I have completed the game using them. Now I don't like using potions and instead sell them for the gold!
EDIT:
Regarding limited quantity of food available to buy - Valid point! I, too, felt this was a major shortcoming. Around 10-15 quantities should be available.
If bonemeal can be made to high quantities then the food should also be made available. It's not even half the quantity of what bonemeal is sold at.

Food is available in a great many places. Bonemeal is not. Overall, there is far more food available.
