Extraordinary items

Right now, I am looking for Black Defender and Shadowfang out of all extraordinary items available in game.

Legendary is beyond my time and energy for now.

I've gone through the main topic already but still have the following doubts.

1) Is it possible to have any (be it extraordinary or legendary) items purely by chance or the game keeps a track of number of kills and then decides to drop the items in any part of the area with the monsters set to drop them ?!?

I am asking it because the main topic emphasis on number of kills, but I did manage to get Shadowfang in one of my previous playthroughs, when I first started to head towards remgard while killing monsters randomly, and somewhere around midway but before crossing the irdeghs, I picked up the weapon as a loot drop.
Unfortunately, I immediately sold it and since then never got the chance to see in any of my subsequent playthroughs.

2) Not interested in spending points on magic finder skills. Are there any other tips to improve the chances of getting them?

3) Are measure items a sure shot indication of a monster dropping it soon?
For ex: I already have 20 jinxed rings. No clue about polished rings but it could be around 40 drops. Still no shadowfang. Though, I'll continue to try. Do I also need to have 200 polished rings?

I agree with Ck on all but number 3. That one is a 50/50. There you can measure it, but it doesn't mean that by x many items that you will get the desired drop. You could get it on your first kill. I wouldn't go over 3 in mf. But I wouldn't worry about mf until after you do all the quest and find all the places.

If the drop chance is 1/1000 - it's 1/1000 every time you fight that monster.

That doesn't mean that in 1000 kills you'll get one drop.

I agree with ↑ you could also get it alot sooner. Some players killed well over 5k and never gotten it. While others kill under 100

2. Knock enough hp from the monster so that the next hit would kill it. Flee the fight and save. Repeat for each monster on the map. Now kill each on. If item drops, great! If not, kill the next monster. Clear the map. No item, then reload the save file and repeat.

It's an old save trick get all enemies down to one hit and save. Keep doing a reload until you get it. It may still take hours, bit you don't need to wait for a respawn

It's an old save trick get all enemies down to one hit and save. Keep doing a reload until you get it. It may still take hours, bit you don't need to wait for a respawn

And if you want to perfectionize it, get the mobs down to 1 hit and save next to 2 or 3, so you can kill them in one go, and immediately reload. Fastest you can get

Search the forums. There are hints and tricks how you can create suchba save

That is hard to do. Getting 2-3 with 1 hp right next to you and still have time save before they initiate a battle.
