Player Support for Andor’s Trail!

Post by ctnbeh13 »

There's always been a healthy amount of interest from the players of Andor's Trail, as well as from the forum community, to help with the development of the game. This is extremely encouraging. With so many ways available to assist in the area of your desire, the most common and easiest way to help out (which is often overlooked), is simply by spreading the word, by word of mouth. Another example that is of significance, especially considering the majority of us primarily use an Android OS based device to play Andor's Trail on, is for players and forum members who use Google+ to simply follow the link below to the Google Play Store where Andor's Trail is located, and kindly consider giving this game your +1 here:

Google+ is also something you may want to consider installing if you haven't already, in case you're interested in possibly attending some of the upcoming development meetings that forum members will have an opportunity to take part in. This itself is a topic being discussed for the sake of streamlining the process of fitting in all of those who express their interest in attending. More information will be available at a later time.

Meanwhile, enjoy the game and the fellowship of the forum. Please keep posting your ideas and suggestions. You'd be surprised how inspirational a few forum members just joking around with impromptu stories can be for usable development options. :)

Google+ is 10.08MB. Does any of this go onto SD Card? 10.08MB can be a hefty chunk of memory to some of us with cheaper phones and in my experience Google likes to make apps that will not mostly go onto SD.

Also, is it able be uninstall once installed? A majority of Google apps refuse to allow uninstall once installed (hence the memory problem on my own phone) and some of us either don't know how to root our phones (not my case) or don't have a computer to do it with (me :P).

As an alternative to the app, in case the app proves impossible, is it possible to use the Google+ in your phone's web browser?

@Dark Savant... yes, yes & yes!

you can browse on your phone from the G+ site instead,
it can be reduced to about half the original size...
and if you choose to uninstall - it will be gone for good.

i chose to uninstall G+ when google Drive came out,
that's what im using for sharing content development...
and google Talk (on most android devices) is the default G+ messenger.

so, i dont have the G+ app... but i do have the Drive app & Talk app!
just to keep my phone useful when im working on game related tasks.
and to keep in touch with my "Circles" on the fly.
"Embrace the Shadow"

DarkSavant13,

The best experience is obviously going to be on a PC with a broadband connection to the Internet. The 2nd best is probably going to be on a smart phone connected by WiFi. A lot of Google's apps that are not uninstallable (except for their updates) are usually for an app version that's either preinstalled with the Android OS by Google (who authors the Android OS) for many wireless provider's device's, or are established by certain wireless carriers to be included as part of a specific device's customized software to optimize it's functionality, often to offset its limitations (which is usually done by the device's manufacturer under contract with a particular wireless carrier to additionally include certain proprietary apps & software which is not often noticeable to the owner of the device that it is even running). There is a certain amount of variation here.

As you already noted, this is the main motivation for most people who root their device, to gain control over it, choose what it does, and customize it into an efficient device that finally works properly without the internal memory being consumed by preinstalled background running apps. The main problem associated with the details of the above paragraph, is the uninstallable apps are usually packaged into the ROM chip where the Android OS is located, and therefore inaccessible by normal means.

The current version of Google+ at the time of this writing for Android OS based devices is 2.6.1.30454518. As it is installed on my device (a Motorola Droid 3) it is occupying 26.30 MB of internal memory, with just under 1 MB used for my specific saved data associated with the app. It should be uninstallable from your device, especially if it did not come preinstalled. The app itself is not written to be transferable to a MicroSD card. It may be possible to achieve this with a 3rd party app, but the amount of data traffic for sending your audio and video stream (video can be disabled), as well as receiving multiple streams from the other members present, may cause the experience to be less than desirable, if it even functions properly at all. Even the use of a Class 10 speed rated MicroSD card may not be enough to make a difference on a device that would require Google+ to be transferred here due to lack of available internal storage.

The problem that you may experience using your stock Android browser that came preinstalled on your device is that you will mostly be viewing web pages in a mobile format. I use and recommend Opera Mobile browser for many reasons covered elsewhere in the forum. With this browser I can select from mobile view or desktop view. Of the two I most always use desktop view. This allows me to have the full browser experience when signed in to my Google account. While Google+ is accessible to me using either browser, the main problem you will run into is not being able to use the Hangout feature that is used for the development meetings. Upon choosing the "Classic" over the default "Mobile" and then later "Switch to Desktop View" from an icon in the lower left corner, from within the stock Android browser and then selecting the Hangout icon, you will receive the following message; "We're sorry but this product is not available on your device." If you would choose the Opera Mobile browser set to desktop display and select the Hangout icon, a window will appear offering you to download the required additional software with the following notation at the bottom of this window; "Requires Windows XP+, Mac OS X 10.5+, or Linux". While the Android OS is based on the Linux kernel, this is not listed to be compatible with Android, so I personally don't feel attempting to install the additional download would result in a desirable situation.

Sorry, there doesn't seem to be any good news here for you at this time. :?
