I would really like to change from Subversion that we use today, to using Git for source control. The main reason I can see for this is to be able to handle several branches in parallel, and to ease the process for everyone else that contributes and/or forks the code. Our project page on Google code would still be the same, but we would just switch the type of source control being used.
Anyone for or against?

I don't know if it would help.
Currently there are many old patch files available in the issue tracker that were not contributed for an unknown reason. Having written some of them makes me sad and unmotivated to contribute any more.
Why not contribute or reject (with a reason) the upcomming patches faster?
Otherwise the forks still would need heavy merging.

Subversion leaves a lot to be desired, but its free and you can't beat free! I use it everyday and I am counting down the days until we switch to TFS. But, this has nothing to do with Oskar's question as I am just ranting.
