BUG? attack/actor condition issue

Post by CKork »

:?
I just had my lvl 52 perma-death character die on me by what must have been a bug.
I was in a rather save place, farming it with no issse for hours, when all the sudden actor conditions went crazy.

I was in the goo cave south-east of crossroads and farming for a black defender (just had a ROLS after roughly 8k gargoyle trainer/master farming and continued to equipment farming at roughly lvl 50!). I killed roughly 800-900 crimson jellys. If you know the cave, you also know that they are mostly single spawns in a narrow cave hallway. I always attack single mobs only to not get crit killed. Out of 130ish health, I never got below 60 hp after fights, always healing up, with 5-6 DR and a ROLS equipped. BC was above 100 as well, so did not get many hits.
I fought with the ogre great axe or a dagger and shield, and hat 11 base AP and the Fallhaven jewel, so enough AP to always fight or flee if I get Actor Conditions with -AP.

After a couple of hours farming, something must have gone awol in the code or cashe. All the sudden I only had 6 AP out of 12 after engaging a crimson jelly. On first attack!
I know their actor condition can stack, but they only have 2 attacks per round, and seldomly apply that at all to me. Straight after engaging, I had 8(!) stacks of that condition, with me attacking first in combat. Couldnt fight or flee, had to skip multiple turns and barely got out.
That was already awkward. Decided to swap the greataxe to quickstrike dagger again, to make sure I have always enough AP to keep attacking and get out better going forward.
Next crimson jelly, same situation. Almost stun-locked, barely got out.
2 times in a row seemed strange. I got back to menu, exited the game, closed the app, got back in, continued.
I cleared the upper level of the cave completely (no crimsons there).
Next crimson jelly on the lower level applied 12(!!!) stacks of the actor condition at once, right from the start of the battle. I had 0 action points right from the start and I had to skip turns. The condition never wore off, and the character died!
Also, I only got crit hits very seldomly by the jellies, in these last encounters, they struck me repeatedly with crits.

Now, is it possible that the goos/jellies apply 12 stacks in a single mob encounter on first round?
To me, it seems like either too many stacks were applied, or the character/mob stats had an issue or maybe the actor condition cashe didn't clear out properly (I waited after combat until everything wore off, and fully healed each time, but maybe, even though cleared visually, the condition stacks still were invisibly active in the background, continuing to stack up on each new encounter?).

Will it help to send you a file of my AT folder? Still got the RIP/dead PD char in "continue" slot.

Why I am so sure this was buggy:
As it is PD mode, I pay very close attention to mobs, their stats, my stats, and especially their attacks per round, crit potential and actor conditions. I grind safely to level up, then continue in new areas, always ensuring I have enough potions, escape routes, and excess life in case I get unluky many crit hits/actor conditions by mobs.
I have played the game since many years (5 years break now, wanted to check what's new) and had lvl 70+ PD chars before, so know what I am doing, where to level up, and where it gets hairy.
Just check my old posts as reference 😉

Screenshots were taken a couple of hours before this. Got the serpent hauberk afterwards in the maze and more BC (up to 60 base).

It can't apply x12 in one turn, but it can apply x6 in one turn. The chance is not that low either. It has a 40% chance of x3 on every hit. So if there are a couple of them, you can get hammered if you are unlucky.

Your block chance is only 71, which is low. That's not good against anything that can stick nasty conditions on you.

I've had the same experience. Usually the jellies are no problem for a mid-level charcter, but if things go against you, you'll down fast with them.

I have encountered another spot, where a similar thing happens.

The map past the fog, on the way to feygard, if you go right to the shrine.

If you take money from the bowl, 7 Honor Guards appear. Wheb you click on their info in game, and also in the directory, it does not show any actor conditions, which they can aply. Only damage, nothing else.
Yet, every now and then, I end up with a stun condition for 3 turns. And i have no clue where that comes from.
It did not happen often, but repeatedly every now and then. And only there, not with any other mobs on other maps. It's not triggered by my equipment either.

Is there an explanation why I get a stun condition mid fight from these guys (it's not from the shrine. I don't have it after stealing, and it randomly applies in later rounds of the fight, even when away from the shrine).

Interesting. I'll check later.

But honestly - you've deserved it, stealing from the shrine ...
