Just stumbled on this old thread. Bonemeal potions throw the game out of balance (too much healing for too little gold), so I think it was wise to introduce the patrols as a first corrective step. I expect there will be more similar consequences in the future.
Allowing fighting, evasion, bribery, or any other way to subvert the patrols would weaken the correction and move the game back in the wrong direction — the game requires more friction around using bonemeal, not less.
We have a new Beta: v0.8.13 ("Troubling Times") !

Re: Gangs of Feyguard stealing bonemeal potions
What I think could work towards that, although involving quite some engine work, would be a nutritional aspect to all consumables. So you cannot consume an absolute ton of potions or healing items at once.
say you have a nutrition bar of 0 to 100
a bonemeal potion would fill it up by 15
a big healing pot only 10 to make it more attracitve in comparison with bonemeal
an apple by 2
etc...
each game round, the nutrition bar decreases by 5.
This way, you could consume a bonemeal only every 3 rounds in average, but if the bar is at 0, you could consume 6 at once.
Then you would have to wait again for it to go down.
This could of course be extended by skills, which would either increase the max amount of the nutrition bar (e.g. by 10 per level)
Or it could lower the increase by consuming (e.g. by -5% per level, max 4)
There could also be new actor conditions that would either increase or decrease the nutrition level every round or even stop the decreasing for a specific time to block consumables for some rounds.

This is actually a really good idea.
The only real problem with it is it requires another bar be placed on the UI and that's the last thing we can incur right now as the UI is already cluttered and in some ways dysfunctional.

Yes, I am aware of the cluttered UI problem. I do think however that such a bar wouldn't neccessarily have to be displayed on the main screen UI. It can be hidden in the player overview menu. If you are in a battle and want to use a potion without enough points, it would be displayed in combat log anyways, so you would be able to notice the problem.

Re: Gangs of Feyguard stealing bonemeal potions
It feels like it would be too big a change in AT at this point, and could throw all of the past game development out of its careful balance.
If someone were starting a new game fresh, it might make sense not to allow unlimited carrying capacity, unlimited food and potion consumption, unlimited activity without sleep, safety for items dropped anywhere, etc. Perhaps all that could be added to a sequel like "Andor's Revenge"?

Re: Gangs of Feyguard stealing bonemeal potions
How about putting in an item chest to store items? Maybe at what's his name mikhail house? Where you start at? At least I don't think there's a place to stash items? It would also cut down on the clutter in the inventory. I'm actually surprised there isn't somewhere to do this. (If this is unlockable somewhere and I'm just an idiot forgive me) but yeah I have trouble getting gold in this game too (i suck at games but can't help loving them) and the first time this happened I about cried lol. Took me so long to save up for them. Don't know how true any of the older posts are but who does like criticism? Especially when you've busted your butt on something thats free. But still... eh whatever... I'm ranting again
Wait I just read about dropping items on the ground. So items dropped wont disappear? I did not know this. So the whole world is a storage chest? Is there a limit to the amount of items on a screen or anything like that? Can you drop multiple items on top of each other? Any limit to how many if yes? I guess the only downfall to this is if you can't stack items having a screen full of items and accidentally picking them up over and over lol or having to pick up and redrop items gotta play with this later until I find an answer for sure.

Re: Gangs of Feyguard stealing bonemeal potions
Do people really don't know this? I think it's present since the start of the game. I think I know this before the Feyguard patrol was even introduced. I realize this when I first finished the "Old friends" in the Vacor"s cave. That's probably 2012.babybeanzx wrote: Sat Dec 14, 2024 7:03 am Wait I just read about dropping items on the ground. Is this why people are this upset or dislike the Feyguard patrol? Most people not know this? This is INSANE.

I only read your first sentence and I stopped because there is a basket in the exact spot you're suggesting that you can walk over and drop your items in it and voila.babybeanzx wrote: Sat Dec 14, 2024 6:55 am How about putting in an item chest to store items? Re: Gangs of Feyguard stealing bonemeal potions
Yeah I would say your right. Now that I think about it, it should be common sense to figure this out. But it never occurred to me to try. Is there a game basics and mechanics manual in game? I haven't seen one but if there was this would be a great thing to put in one. As well as the different buffs and status conditions that are in game. I know you can click on them to see what they do but only if your afflicted by it or examining an item with said boon/ailment. I would also love to know how the battling mechanics work. Like what equations load and when during fights I'm sure it's in the forum and I'm getting off topic here ranting again. Anyway thank you so much for your response and how quick you responded. Damn I love this game.NewbNewb wrote: Sat Dec 14, 2024 9:37 amDo people really don't know this? I think it's present since the start of the game.
