Has anyone completed A Secret Garden can't figure out how to clear cave of trolls keep killing them they just respawn?

You can never get rid of all of them. But if you kill enough of them, you can complete the quest.

I have killed way more than 30 trolls and still cannot continue.

I have not delivered the Damerillias yet. Do I need to do this before taking out the trolls? My thought was to deliver fresh Damerillias after getting access to the garden.

You have to talk with Caeda that you would clean the cave of trolls.
After that you should go kill the trolls. It is not exactly 30 trolls - there are different types of trolls, and you need a certain amount of each.
When you move around in the cave, it is checked if you have killed enough, then you get a popup.

I already spoke with Caeda. At this point she will only say: "Oh, it's you again. Did you find my key?" As soon as I answer the conversation ends.

I can kill any number of trolls and I cannot move on. I have tried a few times killing around 100 each time.

Is there something else I need to unlock?
