How do I change the player's name and/or appearance?

I am tired of the player always looking like he does not have a shirt on. And I want to change his name as well. How do I modify the savegame file in order to do this?

With a hex editor. Although the player's name is not encrypted. You can use a simple text editor search for the name in the file. It will find it in two places. Just change it in both as I don't remember which one you have to change. The problem is the name you change it to has to be the same amount of characters as the original.
