Edit saved game files ??

Hmmm. What you did with the edit i did with grind.
I earned all the extraordinaries and legendaries, twice if you can put em on two times.
Then I grinded all my way up to lvl 80 exp, without using the lvl up button (char is lvl 35 with a bit pumped dmg and attack chance). Only quests completed to access the areas I needed to go for the items.

Now I can start over with different things, try builds and quest choices without grinding any more and totally legit! (Feels much better and prevails brag rights )

. Forking that by changing the character name is even easier than what you describe.

Now that is something I could definitely use. It`s hard to tell all the Andor`s Bros apart. Look same, got the same name..
If I could edit the names, that would help me alot. Can you PM me how to do it? Wouldn`t be cheating, right?

Best option would be though, if you could just buy a namechange in game somewhere or a unique `title` that goes before or after your name (title of your chosing).
That way it would stay fully legit

Change name isn't cheating.
This is simple.
Get a hex editor.
Back up the file you wish to change.
Open the hex editor and chose the saved file
Click the saved file
Once it opens notice the first line will be your name, just change it how you desire
Next go down a good ways on your saved file and find your name again
Repeat what you did on the first line and click save
Now close the app and open andors trail and click the file you updated. The name should have changed

I'll respect that as legit. But game play is something I want to be fun, and my idea of fun is more "explore edge cases" than "kill another 10k monsters again". Everyone is allowed to have their own idea of fun.

You can change the length of it.make it smaller or larger. But no larger then the game allows

Agree. Fun is all that matters.
It's single player, so no harm of any kind to others.

My current fun (frustration) challenge is a permadeath monk. Lvl 40 now and grinding for RolS. Not even save/reload is possible. It's fully ild fashioned grinding without any shortcuts.
I hope this one does not die right after finding a RolS (like my previous one...lol).
Excitement and frustration sooo close together.

Can anyone PM what hex editor will work on android. I Accidentally loaded a save game over my lvl 47 PD char. I didn't die I just made a human blunder and dont want to grind that long again.

The for real ones are 32 bit binary values and changing NULL-NULL-NULL-007 to NULL-007-NULL-NULL makes the value go up by a factor of 65536. Items in inventory are slightly trickier because you have to watch out for items worn or elsewhere (eg unpicked up loot), but not much. There's a Pascal string with item name (8 bit string length followed by item ID string) and then a 32 bit count of how many you have. Changing 012-a-p-p-l-e_-g-r-e-en-NULL-NULL-NULL-002 into 013-r-i-n-g-_-s-h-a-d-o-w-0-NULL-NULL-NULL-002 gets you some very nice starting equipment. Similarly kill counts can be edited.

So were in the file are the real XP values. When searching for the amount of display XP, it doesn't also show anywhere else in the file, neither the same hex edit value. The values after the second location of the player name are different too.

I did try myself after reading some hints on this thread but can't understand it. Since the instructions aren't clearly laid out.

Also, I am using the app called "Hex editor" for this purpose.

Which lines require the editing for changing the XP?

I've played Andor's Trail off & on since around 2013 and have yet to score the legendary RolS.

Been having a jolly good time dabbling with a hex editor today.. it's quite satisfying to figure it out.
There is a post earlier in this thread that gives really good clues; from that I was able to do the following.

In an alternate save:
I now have almost 17 million bonemeal potions & 1911 meat. Also, 30583 Hannah's Lunch. Why not.
Bumped from 10 to 40 Max AP
Also gave this character a mild HP boost (from 84 to 135).

Could not for the life of me crack XP or skill points, though, nor how to alter items per u/mainmap's hint.

Still, this is a refreshing approach to a beloved game.
Proud of myself for my legit achievements over the years (though meager compared to some here) and for what I've been able to finagle into my save file today. Also incredibly grateful for the team that brought us this awesome game.

I did also clone the source code to learn how I might use my powers to do some legitimate good for us all. Spent the 2020 apocalypse learning to program, it's honestly given me a whole new outlook on life. So many possibilities!

**Addendum**

I assure you, I am on the side of the developers & honest player base. This is merely to test my determination (in a way besides grinding for years) and "figure it out" capabilities, and to feed my curiosity & goof around with an alternate save.
I am not here to aid in the corruption of high scores or anything similarly sinister.

I am open to trading clues with those who have already figured out certain things.
