I'am about 75% sure that I was fighting one-on-one. Which begs the question: Then why do I have 2? Well, sense I was grinding for one in the first place, I seriously doubt that I acquired one without realizing it.

or, you accidently tapped the item before pressing okay , because you were on some high amounts of caffiene and didn't realize it until your second one... who knows it could have been the improbable and getting it the first monster while the above occurs.
i could see it now, you sit down to relax after the long hard day of observing the forum. When you were preparing to obtain the BD. With 5 monster energy drinks by your side, you chug the first two, and start, however, as soon as the drop happened, your bladder was completely aware that it needed to be empty, sowith out thinking, you accidently tapped the Black Defender in the screen and instinctively pressed "okay."

When I was grinding for Shadowfang, it took 2500 or so kills to obtain.. I got my 2nd Sf literally 2 kills later as I was leaving the area, so I guarantee that repeat drops can happen pretty quick.. 
However, I suspect a discordian plot.
