Getting excited now, and it's nowt to do with Christmas. 
I've looked on Google Play and it is indeed there, the page tells me that Andor's Trail is already installed, (7.01 definitely is). I clicked on "Installed" and it asked me to enter my password to verify that I'm actually me, and then I get the option to "Install" as per screenshot below.
Does this leave me with the updated version and all my existing characters?

I had no problems at all. I just had to tipp Andor's Trail at Google Play Store and then it asked about updating the game. All saves are working.
