'Vilyanmar was a great warrior among the Eastern peoples of Ablandine, known for his twin blades and amazing helm, Fadeshadow, which made him exceptionally hard to attack. During one of his raids out west, he captured a Nor City Noblewoman's wagon. Vilyanmar planned to hostage the Noblewoman, but when he uncovered her wagon he was struck speechless by her beauty and grace. Never before had Vilyanmar been interested in anything but war, but that instant his heart started to soften. He still took her hostage, but the conflict within him began to stir. Strangely enough, the Noblewoman also was equally struck by this warrior from the East, though she tried not to show it. Nevertheless, the two couldn't contain it, and they began to fall in love. Being an outlaw, Vilyanmar knew he couldn't continue his old lifestyle, and vowed to make her happy, and upon her urging, he vowed to lay down his twin blades forever.
Living a peaceful life in the wild, away from Nor City and his people, they bore a child, and Vilyanmar was never happier nor more content. Tragedy struck while he was off hunting Anklebiters for dinner, and a group of Feygard bandits discovered their humble residence & destroyed all that he had, and he found his wife & newborn daughter savagely slain.
His grief was so great his cry of outrage shook the very walls around him. He grabbed his arms, but immediately remembered his oath to his slain wife that he'd never take up his twin blades again. He melted down his helm, Fadeshadow, and fashioned it into a sword as his tears and malice and hunger for vengeance imbued upon the sword. With that blade, Vilyanmar turned away from a peaceful life forever, and dedicated the rest of his life to exacting vengeance upon the Feygard patrol and its people. It is said that somehow the sword - built from melted Fadeshadow - still retained much of the defensive prowess of the former helm, and Vilyanmar exacted swift vengeance going into battle with no armor, just his newly forged sword, Vilyanmar's Vengeance."

Re: New Sword Idea - Vilyanmar's Vengeance
I don't like the backstory, but nice concept... What if you're playing with Feygard? Feygard might be innocent and Nor City religious fanatics. That's a bad thing for Feygard supporters in the game.
How do you plan to get the weapon anyway? Through grinding (oh god not again), or through a quest? (Might be fun, but it takes a lot of time to write one)
If it is called the Vengeance, I'm not sure if defensiveness is good. Add about -10 bc and it would look a lot more apporpriate for being called vengeance.

True I didn't even think of that haha. I don't like the back story that much either.Wyrmspawn wrote:I don't like the backstory, but nice concept... What if you're playing with Feygard? Feygard might be innocent and Nor City religious fanatics. That's a bad thing for Feygard supporters in the game.

Re: New Sword Idea - Vilyanmar's Vengeance
Was hoping you'd ask that. Been too long since I wrote a story on AT forums. Don't really have to use this, just another suggestion.
Vilyanmar was a proud warrior who yielded to no man, demon, or god. Displeased with his ways, his people decided to overthrow him as their protector, and put someone new in his stead. When Vilyanmar learnt of this, he laughed and challenged all of his people to overthrow him. The bravest and strongest fought him all at once; but they were shocked to find that their blows bounced off him like pebbles off a shield. This went on for a while until Vilyanmar got bored and swept his unfortunate assailants aside with his sharp blades.
Angry, but afraid, his people yielded meekly to his harsh rule and all thoughts of resistance fled their minds. But soon, Vilyanmar heard of a great hero whom they called the Undefeated One. Angered that such a title would be given to one other than him, Vilyanmar set out to defeat this hero.
No one knows what happened, but Vilyanmar came stumbling back to his people, his proud and well-forged swords all but destroyed; one was bent almost in half, and looked more like a hook than a sword; the other one was deformed near the hilt, as though a large, large hand had grasped it and squeezed with impossible force.
Vilyanmar's people, who hated him, seized the opportunity. His skin was too tough for them to hurt him; but his swords were gone and he himself was exhausted. Together, they bound him in tough ropes that he had used on them before, and tried to kill him with swords and daggers; but no blades could penetrate his tough, tough skin, and proud, if defeated, Vilyanmar laughed at their efforts.
It was then that a wise woman proposed a way to kill him. Taking out the largest cooking pot in the village, she proposed that they put the proud hero into boiling water. Not even his hard skin would save him from that, and the fire would not burn through the ropes. Hearing this, the proud hero cursed and writhed against his bonds; but he was exhausted from his battle, and the ropes might have held him even were he at his full strength.
They dragged the proud Vilyanmar, struggling and roaring threats, to the center of the village, where he was boiled alive... but not before he performed his last act as a hero. Cursing his people for turning against him, he roared out in a rage that could be heard throughout the village. Although the hero himself would die, Vilyanmar declared that even through death, his twin swords would survive, and would wreak havoc upon his people forever.
Years later, the village simply disappeared. In the middle of the ruins, an adventurer found a strange sword. It was well-made, but it was deformed near the hilt. It was, he described, as though a blacksmith wearing very large heat-proof gloves had squeezed the sword just as it left the fire...

Interesting indeed. I like many concepts of your story better also. Let's see what the other members think or want to add! Vilyanmar's Vengeance is the name of the sword though.Wyrmspawn wrote:Was hoping you'd ask that. Been too long since I wrote a story on AT forums. Can I have the "Cliff Notes" version please?
I'm really not in the mood to read a best-seller.

The concept behind the weapon is sound but i don't see the need for that much back story really, unless the weapon is tied directly into a quest.
Cool idea for a sword! I like the stats!

I believe all L/E items should have back story, that's why I wrote then for my L/E item ideas. They can be a clickable link in the item panel. It adds much needed depth, so why not?Pyrizzle wrote:The concept behind the weapon is sound but i don't see the need for that much back story really, unless the weapon is tied directly into a quest.

I don't have an issue with adding flavor texts to the weapons, my only concern is that it is quite long.

Yea and both our versions of the back story are very rough drafts. Any ideas on where to trim the fat?Pyrizzle wrote:I don't have an issue with adding flavor texts to the weapons, my only concern is that it is quite long.
