Re: Dual wielding
Since you are carrying a shield, I think the block chance is already calculated in your defense, but I do like the idea of having a skill that would allow you to use your shield to block a hit. I have seen it used in conjunction with dual wield, kinda like a parry option, where you would block an attack with your off hand weapon, but in this case, it would be a shield. If you already had a point in dual wield, you could then put a point in the shield block skill.

Re: Dual wielding
With dual wielding being introduced in version 0.7.0, it has had me thinking for a while about how it will work.
Is there a concept of a primary weapon? I know that if you are equipping a 5AP weapon and a 4AP weapon that the 5AP will count in determining your total AP/attack.
Does the hero get the AC% increase benefit from both weapons or just from the higher AC weapon?
Scenario 1: 12AP, Jewel of Fallhaven, and 2 4AP weapons. 3AP/attack = 4 attacks/round.
Does this mean that each weapon gets 2 attacks each?
Scenario 2: 12AP, Jewel of Fallhaven, and 1 5AP weapon and 1 3AP weapon. 4AP/attack = 3 attacks/round.
What happens here? Does the higher cost AP weapon get multiple attacks? Is there a concept of a primary weapon? i.e. the weapon in the original weapon slot?
Does the 4AP weapon (5AP - 1AP from JoF) get 2 attacks and the 3AP get one? If so, why? Because it is the primary? What happens if the 3AP weapon is made the primary?

Re: Dual wielding
My main character is a high bc dr build so I hope ther are changes to balance shields with dual wielding for those of us who still want to use them.
Side note.. Pyrizzle I had read that you wear considering ideas for a legendary shield, how is that coming along? I would love to see that happen.

I have a big list of ideas for new legendary and Extraordinary items. The shield is something i could see being very useful at one point or another.PK17 wrote:My main character is a high bc dr build so I hope ther are changes to balance shields with dual wielding for those of us who still want to use them.

With Duel wielding around the corner i wanted to see more options for shields, otherwise they will be not ever used. I also feel like shields will need a good boost.

Re: Dual wielding
Agreed. With some shields lowering ac, it would seem rational that dual wield is the more efficient option especially if jof applies to both weapons. Shield needs a buff and a legendary to make it a viable option for late game as dr losses effectiveness against stronger opponents.Pyrizzle wrote:I have a big list of ideas for new legendary and Extraordinary items. Re: Dual wielding
Let me be a history nazi over this one but parrying daggers were mostly used in the -very- late middle ages but mostly in the renaissance.Wyrmspawn wrote:But there are weapons such as parrying daggers that were widely used in medieval times.
(One of my hobby is historical fencing and if you said to my provost that they used parrying daggers in the middle ages I guess your head would be lying on the ground... forever.)
Back to topic:
I agree with you but you have to know that parrying daggers still offer a more aggressive fencing than sword and shield. To make it really realistic wearing a shield should increase the cost of an attack (in AP) but in return all should give DR and maybe more BC.
+1 For parrying daggers!

Re: Dual wielding
Like with any game mechanic we introduce we will go through several variations and testing scenarios to figure out exactly how we want dual wielding to work and make sure it is fun and hopefully well balanced.
