I'm not thinking its a bug. It sounds more like a benefit of a certain component.
It sounds like it acts like a bug and therefore is confusing until you realize that the sword you hold has the ability to randomly increase your HP during a fight but then goes away once the fight is over.

I think that the problem is that when enraged, your HP should go up, not just the capacity of the HP to go up, if I am reading this right.

There are maby bug only in the bar
However, there apparently is a bug in that the bar does not update its graphics when this happens. I'll fix that bug for v0.6.9.

The problem I encountered was .....
Fight causes rage
Rage causes max HP to go up
If you try to add more HP by eating/potion it doesn't stick, as soon as you start fighting another critter it goes back down to what it would normally be.
Example
Before fight HP 105 Max HP 105
start fight go into rage HP 90* Max HP 140
Add Bonemeal Potion HP 130 Max HP 140
Fight second critter HP 75* Max 105
*HP reduced do damage taken in fight.
While this may not be a bug, it is (from what I have been able to do) kind of useless. I mean what is the point of raising Max HP if you cant use it long enough to fight something. I have wasted enough Bonemeal trying to get it to work I wont even use Bonemeal unless i get to 65HP or less. The extra 35 HP would be nice for 1 or 2 critters.
If I am doing it wrong then someone please tell me how to fix it.
