So I found tons of cool looking maps with new things to kill, but everything seemed to be a dead end...

So far I found a cave I couldnt enter, vines I couldn't remove, a rope I couldn't pick up, two people that wouldn't talk to me, and a ton of dead ends.

if you are truly at Remgard, then you went through cave full of them. Although at your level they pose no threat to you so you probably didn't notice them.
