Could Someone Provide Me Solutions to Improve the Combat Experience in Andor's Trail?

Hello everyone :D

I have been a longtime fan of andor's trail; and I have greatly loved my character trip through the numerous quests; dungeons; and battles. The game's rich lore and strategic fighting system have kept me occupied for hours; and I appreciate the developers efforts to make this RPG an unforgettable experience. But like every game; there is always space for development. I wanted to offer my thoughts on the present combat system and see if anyone else in the community has any comparable ideas or suggestions for improving this area of the game.

One thing I have noticed is that, while the battle system is enjoyable; it may become repetitive at times; during long play sessions. I believe it would be excellent to add more variation in fighting methods and skill specialisation. adding additional weapon types with different capabilities could enable new battle styles. A grasp may be used to make long-range melee attacks, whereas a flail could provide area damage to multiple opponents simultaneously. Also, greater skill tree depth; allowing for specialised builds like as a dodge-focused rogue, a heavy armoured tank; or an elemental attacking mage; may encourage players to try out new combat strategies.

Currently; most challengers in andor trail follow predictable patterns; making them easy to destroy once you grasp their behaviour. Introducing more complex enemy AI that reacts to the player's tactics could provide a new level of challenge and excitement. adversaries may learn to block frequently employed strikes or employ status effects such as poison or paralysis more wisely. Boss disagreements; in particular; may benefit from foes changing tactics midway through the game; pushing players to adapt on the move.

Another concept is to include environmental concerns in fighting. Imagine fighting in a dense forest with limited visibility or on ice ground with reduced movement speed. Risks related to the environment such as fire traps; falling rocks; or even weather impacts may offer an added layer of strategy; making each combat feel distinct. Players may need to modify their tactics depending on the situation, giving dimension to the fighting experience.

I believe it would be motivating to have more rewards linked to combat mastery. This could take the form of achievements; rare loot drops; or even titles reflecting a player skill level. defeating a particularly challenging boss without taking damage may unlock a special title or weapon. These rewards could act as a badge of honour for combat-proficient player while also providing an additional motivation to understand the game's rules.

Also I explored some topics related to this. can we make suggestions for the game engine but I did not get the sufficient solution of my query so I would really want to get some help from a more experienced person

I would like to know what the rest of the community feels about these suggestions. Do you have any other suggestions for improving the fighting system? Are there any particular features of fighting that you'd want to see enhanced or refined? Let's talk about how we can help make Andor's Trail even more satisfying

Thank you in advance for your time and guidance. :D :D I am looking forward to hearing your perspectives and learning from your experiences.

There are already excellent options for building a "dodge-focussed rogue":
With the Jewell of Fallhaven, Villain's Leather Armor, Feline Boots, Quickstrike dagger, and both levels of the Combat Speed skill, you can hit 4×/round and still flee, even without a speed potion or the Cleave skill.

With four levels of the Evasion skill your attempts to flee will also always be successful.

No range weapons will be added. It's already been tested in a POC and rejected for being overpowered.

AI? You do realize this is a hobby project for a handful of developers right? We don't have the resources or the skill set to introduce AI.

Also, for the most part monster movement is random. Most monsters are restricted to a certain area, but within that area it's random.

Also, if we had range weapons, so would the monsters. I don't want my next level 50 permadeath character to be fricasseed by a fireball as soon as they step into a tile, so I'm happy avoiding that arms race altogether. :)

problem is less with combat system and more regarding the stats system around which combat is built upon
a lot of your views regarding improvement are visible in monsters but like i said its based on stats not through some AI but chance based algorithms, which does a decent job of keeping you surprised about monsters attacks.

stats system like AC, BC, etc need a significant overhaul with more broader appeal that can make combat more versatile with offensive and passive abilities like applying variety of conditions on monsters in addition to physical attacks AT WILL and not dependent solely on weapons for the purpose. Critical skills need to be also buffed up. It's linked with chance to trigger which is significantly nerfed rather than a better guaranteed hit threshold. Another stat which is missing is around stealth despite strong presence of thief guild.

I can add more stats to make combat interesting but the things is that it will require significant changes to code, engine and developers are already struggling with time to bring content over more complex changes that will require more hands on board to achieve

Crits were nerfed for a reason. They were overpowered.

There is no stat for stealth, but there is a skill; Evasion.

I have thought about skills that allow you to inflict conditions on monsters regardless of the weapon (or lack of weapon) that you are using.

What's made the game more interesting for me in the past few years is the shift to more storytelling and problem solving and away from endless fighting and grinding (the skeleton cave early in the game is a real buzzkill, for example). It's good that combat is part of the game, but I don't think it needs to be a bigger part.
