Permadeath cheat discovered

Once a permadeath character level is high enough, you can recover the character (a few levels lower) by using the following steps:
  • Immediately uninstall Andor's Trail, and don't check the option to keep app data.
  • Reinstall Andor's trail from the same source (e.g. F-Droid, Play Store)
  • Launch the app. and you'll find your permadeath character restored at a lower level (e.g. 5 or 6 lower).
Tested (repeatedly) on two different devices using Android 12 to 14.

Of course, this is pointless — you could just play non-permadeath — and I discovered it accidentally, but clearly there is some checkpoint cached somewhere after every n levels or turns. The lowest level I've seen restored this way is level 9, but I don't think it's predictable.

I just did a test now after losing my level 27 permadeath character to an overconfident boss fight, and it took me all the way back to level 9, but the character is still there. Typically, the loss isn't that big.

You don't even have to do that. There's a much simpler way.
Back up your file to an external drive and then import it back in

I think that way you just get the savegame from the old directory where it was on Android phones < 10.
When you freshly install Andor's Trail on a phone with Android 10 or higher, then it looks if there are savegames in the old place and imports these automatically.

Yes, true, but this one happens even when the user didn't deliberately cheat.
