Can AI like midjourney or whatever develop new sprites for new content for the game? Or do all the sprites have to be made and released by human beings?

The ones we have tried do not generate 32x32 images. They also generate jpeg files, which cannot have a transparent background. So I would not say they are useless, but it is a lot of work to adapt what they create to what we need.

Plus most of them are not free and the ones that are, do not fit our needs for the reasons already mentioned above.

I ask due to restrictive licensing limiting use of AI. For example, llama-2 is arguably not open-source, and it probably does not meet the FSF definition of free either.
