[solved] Unfinishable quest: Hunting the hunter

It seems people have finished this quest, but I can't somehow...

I found and killed the golden jackal. On the way back to the orchard I got myself killed. Now when I go to Deebo he acts as if we never met before (i.e. same dialog options as when starting the quest). I have the golden jackal's fur, but can't find a way to give it to Deebo...

Am I missing something here, or is it a bug?

I did, it ends with him telling me to bring him proof of the jackal's death and that's it, no further options available.

Interesting. You are missing the third entry in the log saying that you've killed the jackal. Where exactly did you die? Was it right next to the jackal before you can leave his area?

I can't remember exactly, but it was already outside of the forest.

Now, I don't think I believe that is possible because you get that third quest step immediately after killing the jackal and that's what you need to continue the conversation with Deebo.

Right after killing the jackal you should have gotten a script alert dialog box basically indicating that the jackal is dead and it should have given you a quest progress reward. The only way that the cut could potentially not occur is if you encountered one of the monsters right next to the jackal that prevented the script from firing

You should be able to go back there and get it.
The quest with the wood cutter I didn't walk over the area but got the item so I had to go back and the quest triggered

Yes, I got the alert, it said something like "The golden jackal has perished". There were no monsters in the vicinity of the jackal, so I'm quite sure that is not where my hero was killed.

I' will try to go back there and kill it again...

Fun fact: The message didn't trigger directly after killing the jackal, I first had to walk over his corpse. So maybe it could be possible to leave the area without triggering the script? That would be confusing...
