Most skills are just ..ok.

I don't pick any skill (apart from increased fortitude) till I reach level 25 to decide how should I proceed further after finishing all the easier quests and accessible areas.

You don't have to compulsorily use skill points. Let them accumulate. Reach a high level. Save and back up the file. Now you can experiment with the skills to understand their use.

I would always take Re 1. It's a safety net. Even if you run out of food and potions you can stand somewhere safe and get HP back. I shouldn't have taken a second level in it though.
