A Raid for a Cookbook

I just completed(ish) the "Raid for a Cookbook" quest, defeating both bosses, but there is no book. He was reading from the book when I walked up, and there is a book "sprite" on the table where he was standing, but I can't pick it up.
Am I missing something obvious?
