I agree that the ElyR area is a hard area to level and the RoL area is a dark area to level. But the RoLS area is just nice.

I agree some Level 20 hero should not go after legendary items.

The area by the cabin that's half way up to the BWM settlement has the "snowmen" that give you 150XP, and I can usually kill 1 or 2 young wyrms or full grown white wyrms before I get fatigued and have to rest in the cabin. The rate for gaining XP is just faster, and it feels like the respawning rate is too.

I do agree that the gargoyle trainers and masters are the best area on the other side of the passage, and also the best in terms of combined XP (usually around 100) and gold (usually 20-30, compared to the 1-4 from the snowmen but the wyrms drop 20-30). And they also drop the gems that can be sold for 5 gold.

I guess I just needed a change of scenery, and I want to be able to kill the gargoyle trainers more easily when I go back for the RoLS.

The respawn rate IS faster on the side of BW mountain, because YOU decide the respawn rate; all you have to do is put your head on that pillow for a split second and there is another 1,500 experience awaiting. I timed it. It takes about 38 seconds to just kill the monsters on that screen where the cabin is. The total exp earned depends on the monsters that spawn, but I think it averages out to be about 1,500, but always over 1k. I didn't time the Trainers, because I've never farmed for a RoLS, but I remember being there for the quest, and I simply cannot imagine you get even a tenth the experience there in the same amount of time. If we could find an average amount of time it takes to get a RoLS I guarantee two characters that started out exactly equal and one went for exp on BWM and the other went for a RoLS the RoLS character would get totally owned. Something to think about.

I am trying for the ELyR as in my opinion, it is superior to the RoL. Plus leaving-up in blackwater is faster as you gain more xp per victory.

From the village Prim (north-west of Flagstone) follow the path heading to Blackwater mountain. Directly on this path near Blackwater mountain you may get an ElyR.

I got bored of trying for the ROLS.

It is my impression from what Samuel says in his excellent tables that all of the trainers and apprentices have the potential to drop the ElyR.
I would like to confirm that only the imps among the Kazaul drop the RoL, and the spawn do not. Is this indeed the case, Samuel, or anybody else who knows for sure?

Yes. See the patitions to check if you found them all. (Monster partitions: (1+1+1+1) + (1+1+1) + (1+1+1+1))

Only the imps drop it. I actually got mine from an imp.

Thanks, Samuel. I wondered since the spawn do drop small rocks, which you list as the "measure item" for the RoL. The RoL that I got immediately and lost by loading a pre-RoL save after a death ( stupid, stupid, stupid move) was dropped by an imp, but for a long time the dogma was that only gargoyle trainers dropped the RoLS and masters did not, though they both do. I just thought that maybe the spawn did drop them, too ( wishful thinking.)

I have over 300 weak potions w/o looting the ELyR. No big deal! Patients is the key. Hay, I got 2RoLS for being patient.
