I also think the fading color behind the item looks best, but I would suggest a third choice - text coloring. It has worked so well for other games that considering it would be a loss.

Being an old diablo series player would I also suggest legendary items are brownish.

Thanks for the input everyone. Different colors behind the item icon it is then.

I have committed code that does this now. Should be ready for the next release.

I did try the current developer version. The colors look good.

1) There should be a new line in the description that says unique item, quest item extraordinary item and legendary item.
2) Not all unique items are labeled so: Jinxed ring of damage resistance, Mikhail's ring
3) I did not expect the damage rings +6, the quickstrike dagger or the jewel of fallheaven to be unique. (as the shop refills)

The assignment should be reworked. Otherwise everything is special and one would learn this items could be sold...
