2.1, but I had my version updated from 1.6 recently on the same phone.
I am on an HTC Hero. If you need to update the Sprint store will do it at no charge. You will lose everything you have on your phone that is not saved to your sd card, but I think it was worth it.

I'm using the leaked "official" non-rooted Droid X manual install of 2.3.3 Gingerbread now. Haven't had ANY problems yet. The game seems to work the same as before I updated.
