What I think is that xulviir is no that strong weapon right now but we can make it strong in future. Like the final fight should b the toughest one and could be fought using xulviir only. Before that you have to make xulviir more strong taking it to a particular smith and smith ask you to bring a special gem or water or somthing to make it strong.
And if you want you can do this also that feygard king took xulviir from you and you have to recover it first then to the smith.

Can't use the X'ulviir for the final fight because some of the players don't have it. They would have destroyed the broken sword in the A Creeping Fear quest

what if the vilegard smith dint destroyed it, he has tricked you.You can take it back by threatening him and get it restored using 3 oegyth crystal
If this is not OK then let them start all over again

I think the player should be able to use his very own build (weapon and shield/dual-wielding/two-handed) in the final fight. (It's not evon sure if there will be one.)
The dev team and I are currently focusing on the upcoming version 0.7.2 and then we can definitely think about the end of tthe main quest. We will see...

I hoped this would be an endless story with more and more content being added over time ...

It'll be a very very long story in total but the main quest will have an end sometime and all the other quests will be shorter than this one.
