I wouldn't describe Lodar's actual hideout as a cave, but it is accessed through caves.

Then you are not searching. If you tried an area and it tells you there is a force that won't allow you to do so, then you have not done the quest.

Go to the Dunlain (spelled wrong, I know) and find the Rocky formations.

But it sounds to me like you have no business going to look for him right now. As you would never make it there.

Sascha just seems to be a newer player that doesn't realize that although Lodar is mentioned relatively early while exploring Fallhaven, actually finding him is an advanced proposition that you have to do much later in the game.

I got confused there for a bit the cave you need is part of a quest if the quest for i believe is a lost potion then you can't get there. That and it seems you haven't done enough of the quest. If you read up a bit you were given the hint of where it is. People are trying to help you but when you start the quest it will tell you where he is. But if you are are a low level character, you will not make it to him. And even if you do, you would need to make it back. So I will say I doubt you are ready to do the quest
