New skills and items: wilderness

Was just thinking, the setting of AT is just not complete without the Wilderness skill. The idea is, that with this skill, you are able to make a small campfire, where you can use kitchen tools like a frying pan to cook your meat. Raw meat should give a chance on certain illnesses. But also, certain areas might only be reachable if you've become aware how to climb or swim, build a shelter, etc. Just an idea, I am carrying a town's worth of meat and would love to invite Prim to a BBQ as a feast when I finally find RoL.

There was a suggestion of swimming and climbing skills before, but this is a more general type of skill that might be a little better.

That said, the last time we came to a conclusion that it would be unfair to force players into investing skill points to roam the full map, because then the game would no longer be a free-to-roam dungeon crawler RPG, but would be a fixed-storyline RPG.

Well,getting swim and climb could be part of a quest. The game is still free roaming, just certain areas can only be accessed with these skills. Like Vacor's cave, you need the map before you can enter...

But my idea is not restricted to limit areas with rivers or steep climbs, but I also wanna BBQ! And I want a frying pan as weapon so I can bonk enemies on the head with it, but also cook my raw meat. OMGBBQ :-P

Oh and you could always make areas with average difficult swim or climb parts accessible without the skill, with a certain percentage of drowning or falling if your skill level is not high enough, doing a random amount of damage to your hp (between 1 and 10, I suggest, and for really dangerous swimming passages and climbs, between 11 and 25 per fail). Then it is still free roaming :-)

Sarumar. It, besides absolute public outragre, is the best way to get something changed or added in. (Besides doing all the work yourself as well). +1's go a long way..... as for cooking, climbing, and swimming. I would like to see them all be added in that order.

As long as I have no time to build a structured idea system (or somebody else, fine by me), ideas will repeat itself. But indeed , as long as some of the ideas I find are really improving AT, they will be posted. Climbing, swimming and coking could all be part of the Wilderness skill, or could be seperated. Either way, I wanna build campfires, warm myself for the night (day night cycle including seasons yes please) and cook raw meat! *rawr*

that, and the feel of the game is always changing...
things that were denied in the past have crept up into possibilities.

like the like filter everyone forgot about, but will eventually be used.
(making dungeons seems darker, etc)

i could see this implemented, and honestly...
as the world grows i could also see fast travel being considered.

even with all the denials, keep pushing great ideas until they catch on.
seriously, just keep reviving threads that start slipping into obscurity.

huge +1 from me on this one,
just like in all the other threads linked above.
