Speed slaying

Well, I have gotten my character leveled enough to do runs up and down the path to Remgard (this looks like the area with the highest EXP baddies), and since there's so much spawn there I started thinking about the fastest to do that. Since nothing there has high AC or BC but they do have a lot of hitpoints it seems dealt damage needs to be a priority. I can definitely sacrifice my AC (to use different equipment) and BC and damage resistance (why is it not called damage reduction? ) are not too imprtant as I don't. take much damage there. My question is should I give up criticals in favour of higher AD?

It depends on what your Effective Critical Chance is.
If you're using the Dagger of the Shadow Priests, and you equip all critical skill items (rings, armor, boots, gloves, possibly hat) and JoF, you should be able to get around 25% ECC, so on average you'll get 1 critical hit out of every 4 attacks which is how many you get per turn. I've found it to work pretty quickly. I also have 1 skill in More Criticals (planning on 2 more).

With 25% ECC and 4 hits per round and AD of 29-33...

3 hits doing say (30 damage minus monster DR of 8) 22 each plus one critical hit of (30-8(monster DR))*3.0 CM) 66 gives a total of 132 per round.

Now if I change all my crit gear items for things that give more AD could I get it to a point where in three hits per turn (or maybee two) I could get more than that 132 damage. I am thinking that with the monster DR at eight in four swings I am "wasting" 32 damage per round while if I swing twice I am only losing 16.

You may be "wasting" damage in your words Tegger, but what if you get 2 or 3 Critical hits out of the four, as I do at times, that really smokes those baddies!

I agree with Sarumar. If you are looking to go thru the baddies faster than More Criticals is going to the your best bet.

On my first character I put lots of points into more criticals and better criticals. It was fun watching all the monsters disappear as soon as I touched them.

That's a lot of skill points into More Criticals, I bet at this point one critical hit is enough for you to take out any enemy you run into.
