Initiative?

I am new to the boards and this may have been brought up, but what about player/monster initiative? How is it calculated? Maybe a skill to improve your chances?

So far it has been only an annoyance, but when running into more then one enemy, if one gets initiative then all of them get it. This can really add up in the wrong situation. This is usually avoidable, but occationally a monster will move in just before you engage another.

The Evasion skill will decrease the monsters chances to attack first by 5% per level in the skill up to four levels. Level 3 Evasion (which I am at currently) allows me to run in circles around monsters but I do still get attacked every so often.

Yes ;) monsters have 15% chance to get first strike. With evasion 3 they can only attack first if they moved onto your character.

I have one build with Evasion Lvl 4 (yeah i know its overkill)...

I call it NINJA MODE! You can't touch me! -20% to first strike for all NPCs.

Has this already been noted?
When I attack by pressing down (& holding) just behind the monster I'm then moving towards, I nearly always get first attack = ~95% of the time, and appears true for several different monsters..every one I've tried it with.

But if I just tap, tap, tap my way to alongside the monster, then quickly tap again to 'attack' -my chances of getting first strike are somewhat lower = ~75~80%.

I do not have any levels of Evasion Skill, btw.

If you stand next to a monster there is a chance it will attack you, even if it's movement range does not allow it to move onto your location. The chance is 15%, which drops by 5% for each level of Evasion (so 3 levels means it will never happen). But the monster can move randomly within it's range, and if it tries to move onto your location it will always attack.

Growler wants to point out something different: if you move by constantly touching the screen, you could go next to a monster without being attacked - independent of your evasion skill.

Usually I move that way too, to get the first hit.
Although the control is not so accurate, it sometimes happens that my targetted monster moves away in that very moment, so that I might move a field too far and get trapped between 2 or 3 monsters
