Neutral Starter Characters: How far is too far?

Hi everyone, new to the forums but long time fan / addict of AT. First of all I have to say a huge thank you to everyone that's contributed to both the game and this forum. This is an amazingly talented, collaborative and very supportive community!

I've been playing for the last year and just decided to start a new character to explore different story lines. In the process I was thinking of making a stock starter character and leveling him up as high as possible without choosing any sides or spending skill points. For those that haven't considered this option, the idea is to level up as much as possible without making any game changing decisions then creating a master save game file. They when the game is updated in the future and you discover you made a poor choice or just want to choose a different path, you don't have to start over completely from scratch.

My question is this, what choices can I make and can I complete ANY quests without sealing my fate? I'll list an example...
Disallowed Substance: Can I complete the quest but just choose not to drink bonemeal myself or is just completing the quest enough to mark me for life?
I know others have created these neutral "starter" characters. I'd love to hear how far anyone has leveled them and any suggestions they may have. Has anyone compiled a list of "safe" quests? Thanks!

Welcome to the Forum!!!

:D

There isn't really a clear answer, yet - but...

there is a woman in Remgard who lists off your "most notable" achievements,
i'm thinking that these are the ones that get noticed?

Welcome to the forums, Aspen TD! :D

Quests are affected by other quests at times, so sometimes if you complete one quest it may affect other quests.

Factions add fun to the game and may affect everything you do... ;)

WARNING! READING THIS SPOILER COULD RUIN PART OF THE GAME FOR YOU AND I ADVISE AGAINST LOOKING AT IT. But, in the interest of information for AspenTD on the game I'm posting it anyway. I advise you to control your curosity and avoid reading it. You have been warned.
There are no actual factions as of the time of this post. Nothing you do will affect your factional standing one way or another. So, if you complete a quest it will not affect your factional standing. The questmaking tutorial holds the proof, as when you create an NPC you leave the faction blank. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1jNT ... d1fbpdb35k

well, that's not entirely true...
and it's hard to explain - because i don't work with the code.

but i do know that factions are there, just not for aggressive mobs.
remember that Factions link I sent you?

one of the Instances listed showed the need for either BWM Faction,
or False Papers from Prim - to gain access to the back room in BW

not only that, the game knows what you are doing...
so later - when Factions are used for aggressive mobs,
they will consider your past actions... and act accordingly.

So does this mean that at some point in time the guards will actually come to the rescue of the lady in Remgard who thinks I am trying to rob her?

hopefully!

im thinking of when you attack the bandit Rogorn,
and his cohorts join in the fight...

or either Leader in the Blackwater & Prim drama...
having the guards defending, not just standing there.

The thing is the "either" phrase. I've seen a lot of the "either" in the code. But,if there is actually no Blackwater faction then it's the False Papers quest that takes it's place.

I sent a PM to Oskar the same as I sent one to you, and he told me there are no factions at this time. I would love for someone to add factions to all the quests. :D
I can't wait till our past actions catch up with us.

Thanks for the info and the warm welcome everybody. It seems as if my suspicions were right, and that there really is no concrete answer until the game is finished. Hence my desire to create a "neutral" character as high in level as possible....OR....just enjoy playing the game over and over each time there's a new release! I've been playing this game non stop since I first discovered it. All the while I've tried and trashed dozens of other games. This has to be a testament to its replay value!
