Endless dungeon

Post by Xero »

What better way to test your characters strength than see how far you can make it into the endless dungeon? After you have done all there is to do and have become bored of grinding or maybe you like grinding..venture into the depths of eternity and fight increasingly hard monsters!

Benefits of an endless dungeon:

Creates replayability
gives players a way to gauge their strength at high levels
Increases drop rate for rare items (the higher the mob level, the greater the chance for a drop)
Increases experience gained (higher mobs multiply base xp * mob lvl)
Farm multiple mobs instead of grinding in one area and waiting for respawns

How to do this:
I'm not a programmer but many games do offer random dungeon generators so it can be done
Each floor has a stronger mob than the previous floor
there is a staircase leading to a new floor every level.
When you have progressed through the dungeon and defeated the strongest mobs, the next floor starts the cycle over and the mobs are stronger (mob lvl/stats * 2 ect.).
You may leave the dungeon any time
There is a check point every so often that you can return to any previous check points you have reached previously
You get rewarded with special items upon completion of a floor
Every floor has a boss that is relative to the floor mobs..(for example: a wolf floor would have the wolf boss at the same level as the mobs on the floor like wolf boss with base stats*3)
After completion of all floors and before the cycle restarts, new harder elite boss with elite drops
A floor with all bosses after completion of all normal mob floors and before cycle begins again
the new elite bosses are random with unique random drops (each uniques elite boss has a chance to drop a legendary and exquisite that can only dropped by them)
The elite boss on the boss increases in strength like all other mobs in endless dungeon.

Thats about all I can think of...

We could put it in old areas, say, like Crossglen. Would make these areas more interesting without new quests. What would the bosses drop, though? They need something interesting, but not very powerful. I don't really want to bring about another grind fest, so I'm not sure about what the bosses should drop. Other than that, seems like a good idea.
Hey guys, I'm back.

The bosses elite bosses should drop something that us similar to their play style. Like a boss that has high evasion or reduction drops defensive gear...
But I though it would be cool to have them drop legendary items and exquisite unique items because the higher the level of the mob the better the chance to get the drop...so I guess if you wanted to grind low level elite..1 per boss level at very low drop rate then you could...but personally I would spend more time trying to get further into the dungeon for more xp and higher drop probability on the higher level mobs. So imo, grinding on low lvl elite bosses would not be as beneficial as trying to progress further and increase mob drop probability

Not taking into account the programming aspect which offers its own challenges, what you are suggesting is a different game in itself. Andor's Trail is a very story and quest driven game. Adding this type of random endless dungeon only changes the grinding aspect which is actually a small part of the game. Sure the legendary items are great but you can complete the game without getting a single one. While there are strange things, magic, beasts, daemon type creatures, etc. I don't feel like this type of endless dungeon would fit in with the AT universe.

That being said I think it would be an interesting side game.

I agree. The quest story aspect of the game is the best part for sure. I do think implementing this in the game would take the " I've done everything there is to do and now I'm just waiting for an update" aspect from the game. Consider it a filler between updates that offers players a way to gauge the strength of their character and will guarantee replayability. This WILL increase games ratings, downloads, and, player base. however, if it never becomes part of the game..it will still be ok. There are still other games to play between updates.

The only thing this type of feature will do is enable the player to create overpowered heroes, thus killing the competitive nature of the game. Take it from me, being overpowered is not fun as I blew through the new content in v0.6.11 @ level 124 in a matter of hours without breaking a sweat :!: This is why I have 2 additional builds. Trust me, you don't want this feature. :D

that makes absolutely no sense to me...
You are level 124 and blew through the content in a matter of hours without breaking a sweat, but making an endless dungeon would make your character OP because 124 isn't... And you have no challenges left for your character...
Maybe I'm missing something because I thought seeing how far your character could go down seems like a challenge for high level players.
Maybe I should just remain a player but I created an account for this forum specifically to post this idea.
Do I want to challenge my character when nothing left in the game can?
Yes I do..
Do I really want some feature like this that will enhance long term player development when grinding sucks? YES
I'm actually surprised this hasn't received more acceptance...

I actually posted while ago somewhat same kind of idea, it wasnt endless dungeon, but instead area where monster lvl is same as player lvl.
In my opinion that would help in end content, where players may range from lvls 30 to 100.
In this way players of differend level would still get challenge in new content or even in some current areas if they would be changed!

In my opinion endless dungeon isnt good option but monsterlvl=playerlvl might fit in the game...

If you are worried about not having high level content, like quests and monsters, create some. ;)

That's the great thing about an open-source game, you can help add onto it by contributing yourself. This way the game never has to end and players can make sure there is always a challenge even for high level characters.
