[Q] Beginners quest idea: The lost dog

Some kid's dog in Crossglen ran away. The kid is scared because the dog has joined a pack of small rabid dogs. And there's even a boar around! If you agree to bring back the dog, he tells you the way to the forest clearing east of the village. He describes the dog and tells you to stay away from the wild boar. Maybe he hands you a leash as a quest item. You have to go to the clearance, equip with the leash and "attack" the dog while avoiding the boar and the small rabid dogs. You can of course kill all of them and catch the dog afterwards. You then return the dog (which is buffered in your backpack then, poor thing) on the leash.
If you don't like the leash, it would be possible to implement a dialogue with the dog similar to the sheep-mission. A leash would be interesting though as it sets attack damage to zero. This would be challenging when trying to catch the dog without killing the rabid dogs before.
This should be a really early quest that teaches the player about the surrounding area. Sometimes avoiding to fight the strong monsters in order to achieve your goals is also a valid strategy, if you don't want to go grinding until you can kill all the monsters all the time.

I really have been liking the idea of a small tutorial series of quests that will have new players figure out how to play the game that could go along with the Rats!, Breakfast Bread, and Missing Husband quests in Crossglen
Great idea for a starting/tutorial quest! Please keep them comming!

These aren't bad ideas by any stretch, but I would not want to do them. This goes for the poor farmer idea as well. If these were to be implement, I think they should be for the "easy mode".

The "tutorial" quests should just be optional. If you do not want to make them, just go ahead. They should not in any way interfere with the story or any other quest. But there could be an achievement for completing them.

I really like the idea about teaching them strategy. Especially the complete your mission and run away from the boar part. Hey, it might also teach them to flee when facing a stronger opponent that you can't beat. Of course the rabid dogs give meat, and if they have enough meat they just might be able to beat the boar and learn about strategy and healing.

+1, great beginners quest, and who doesn't love a pet dog?
As far as not being worth it, they seem in line with killing the bees (or wasps?) in the hometown, or finding the guy hiding out from his wife, so I think they're appropriate for starter quests.
