Skullcrusher vs. other crit weapons

I'm wondering why I'm not seeing this weapon in comparison threads? It's got great base damage, 3x crit multiplier, and can hit 2 times if geared and skilled right. You'll need the skills Combat speed at lvl 2 and no -AP items to hit twice though.
Still, even with the lower amount of hits I think this weapon offers a great bang for the buck, can stand on it's own (doesn't need much of other gear to be effective), making this a great weapon for defensive based chars like my own. I get the feeling that if I gear toward critical hits instead (gaining a second attack and loads of crit chance) this weapon would be way more damaging than any other critical weapon I've seen.
So I was wondering why people still run around using QSD or DoSP instead of using this beauty?

15% AC and +3 AP is WAY to heavy a cost. With twice as many swings and a higher likelihood to land them, the DoSP will end up doing significantly more damage (especially when swings become overkill and you'd rather have more swings with less, more consistent damage).

That's only 'cause you've got overkill in the damage department actually from leveling way higher than one should be at the point you've come in game. I've got to lvl 29 and I've been to every corner of the gameworld, have seen every map there is to see. And at my lvl, I can't nearly get as much damage from the DosP as I can get from the Skullcrusher.
I'm actually using the Skullcrusher for different reasons (like being the most damaging weapon in game if you don't want to dedicate all your gear to getting more damage - I run a defence based build), but wondered why I didn't see it mentioned on the board more...

though being the highest AD weapon,the AD range of 0-26 is quite large so the chances of getting high AD on attack is same as getting low AD.So i think using it would cause problems like low damage though having critical damage.

I mostly start to understand that I'm just not running a "standard" build I guess. Like I said, I'm using high defence items, so no +6 dmg rings and -2AP from stone cuirass. I'm geared to not being hit, and when I do get hit, there 's -4 dmg from items (and soon one more from skill). So I've only got like 8 damage from skills and levels (meaning I do 8-40 damage due to two rings adding 0-3 dmg), and the biggest appeal of Skullcrusher for me is that it doesn't need much item or skill support for a decent damage output. Granted, killspeed is a lot slower, but the bigger safety means I only drink one potion every three or four times I kill all kazuul imps on lvl 2 of the dungeon. I'm hoping for a RoL though, which would let me have 2 hits with my current setup (compareable damage, little lower I think), and make me invulnerable due to the leech

yea i got your point on defense.
as u can see i too have DR 4 so even though i get attacked i take less damage.
haven't drank a potion since using shadow of slayer at level 45.
as for u,u have less bas AD so yea skul crusher may be right choice

Would you mind listing your stats so we can see what you've got with the Skull Crusher and whatever other gear you're using?
As for me, I prefer having more strikes but that is mostly because I've done (and continue to do) a lot of grinding so I have enough AD without a weapon, and since I get a critical hit pretty much every 2-3 tries, the DoSP is the best weapon for my build.
The Quickstrike dagger became popular early on because it gave 20% AC boost and with the Jewel of Fallhaven, you could get 5 attacks with it, and then with v0.6.8 you could use speed potions for a 6th strike, and with 0.6.9 you could use Combat Speed lvl 2 and speed potion for 7 strikes. But its not a critical weapon so you'd need to have a good base AD.
I also use Shadow of the slayer sometimes, which has the same AP cost as Skullcrusher but gives you +2 AP (this part doesn't matter anymore if you have Combat Speed lvl 2), and a higher minimum damage and the benefit of the +1 HP per kill.
For me, the Skullcrusher has too high an AP cost, and a possibility of providing 0 damage. But I'm glad to see that someone's using it because there's all these weapons and most of us only use 1 or 2.

max hp: 77 (mostly from lvl 2 increased fortitude)
max AP: 11 (+1 from combat speed)
Damage: 8-40
AP/swing: 9 (skullcrusher and stone cuirass)
AC: 182%
crit: 4% x2
block: 114%
DR: -4
My gear:
ordinary leather cap
stone cuirass
necklace of the protector
Stonecrusher
Wooden Defender
2x ring of the protector
troublemaker's gloves
defender's boots
Future skillpoints will go to bark skin, dodge and accurancy (as needed). The only weapon I'd love more than Skullcrusher is the RoL, since it would basically make me invinceable I think (I'm not loosing much life as is, so I shouldn't loose any anymore if leeching...).

a defensive build like this should go for ROLS after ROL and probably get GOLF.

if you still want more BC go for using few BW equipments.
