Can someone tell me how it is decided who attacks first?

Trying to learn as much as I can about how the game actually works. I'm not sure if it has anything to do with the amount of action points you have. I have been experimenting on how to get a higher "first attack" numbers. Does it matter who initiated contact with the other?

I think whoever initates the fight will automatically get first strike, So if you run into the baddy you get first strike but if he/she runs into you he/she would get first strike.

If i understand Evasion correctly it should also effect wither or not the monster would move into you, thus giving you more of a chance for a first hit (since you would initate the battle instead of the baddy).

I hope this helps, if there is a programer who can explain this better than me i would love to hear it, but i think i have a good understanding of this subject.

I had just posted something about Evasion on the (Testers)V.0.6.10 thread earlier today.

Sure seems like even though I come flying up on a guy that's not moving he still occasionally hits me first. Could it be that a microsecond before I run into him he sees me and moves at me? I guess, but we move so much faster than the monsters it seems unlikely. I tend to think that movement points may play a role. Please someone "in the know" let us know.

"in the know" wouldn't be me, :D I've saved games to test that type of thing before though. Sometimes I load and the monster hits first, sometimes I load the same game and evade then come back for the first hit. So the monster moving at the character seems unlikely given speed and time, but must be since I got that to go both ways a few times from one save.

May not be "in the know" but that was some very useful information. (I think I'm supposed to do this: +1 to you now?) So you didn't have to move spots to get to the monster on the save? Otherwise that would leave room for my movement points theory...

So there's no way to estimate and/or reduce the first attack based on them running into you? Too bad...
