im having some issues & am considering a factory reset...
would "rooting" my phone keep it in better shape afterwards?

i read some of the posts here, and almost asked then...
but went with the lazy "if it aint broke" mentality.

any info or advice would be great! :D
no huge problems,
just noticable lag on standard non-app processes.

i want it running like it did when i bought it,
although i think that may be impossible

got a few songs, AT & google talk downloaded.
thats about it, thanks in advance.

Six of the 8 Android devices in my house are rooted.

http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/

That link takes you to the Android custom rom GODS. Be sure to check out the wiki at the top of the page to find out if your device is covered.

You can also check androidforums.com
they have a separate forum for each type of phone and each of those usually has an "All Things Root" section.

There's also xda forums, they have a thing called "one click root" for a lot of phones to make it simple. That's what I used for my Moto Droid. I didn't add a custom ROM (like Cyanogen Mod) because I liked the stock Android but from everything I've read that's the most popular one.

Its basically like having Admin rights on your phone.

I have CM 7.1 on my phone currently but that changes from time to time. Come on ICS Rom's!

If I remember correctly I rooted/installed a custom ROM on my phone just to get rid of all the bloatware that came with it. Then discovered how fun it is to try different ROM's and it kind of took off from there.

There is always the chance of bricking your phone though so be sure to read some guides or how-to's before you do it.

Just a comment, like sdevaney said, bricking a phone is a chance - so's this:
I rooted to delete some firmware I never used. Then I unrooted seeing no point anymore and not liking my phone having more admin "accounts" than needed. When I kept getting errors I realized the permission downgrade, and had to uninstall and reinstall some stuff. :D

the best site ever would be xda-developers.com to help you for your every need.
just search for your phone and root it .!!!
nd it doesnt brick it .!!

by rooting u can have lots of things.
remove system app
and most of all Titanium Backup(it can backup every app with data and can restore it any time)
take screenshots through app which needs root.
there are many advantages and rooting certainly doesnt brick your phone so dont worry .!!

when i got my phone, it was ver.2.2...
it updated to 2.3 but it was buggy

a couple months back, i took it to the dealer & had them bump it back to 2.2
it updated again & its still tragic - i want it off (back to 2.2)

would i be able to do this myself after rooting???
