xBox - hands down - NO QUESTION

unless you are looking for PS3 exclusive titles...
you have NO reason to get a PS3 - unless its for blue ray?

(gamers dont need blue ray, they need great games & amazing speed [broadband])

[just my humble opinion, very heart-felt though]

A friend of mine worked for a company that made games for several different gaming platforms. In his opinion from a programers perspective, the xbox is the way to go. He told me that the ps3 is very hard to program and unless you want to play ps3 exclusive games you won't get any extra quality from the multiplatform games. A game that is written for multiplatforms is wasted on the ps3's powerful setup. What I mean is, if the engine of the game is to run on Wii, xbox, ps3, & pc, it will only be up to performing for the least powerful console. I.e. the Wii.
Also as there are more games for the xbox, and the ps3 is not backward compatible, and a lot of programers of multiplatform games don't know how to get the most from the ps3 yet. The graphics can be a little more blocky/jerky, compared to the xbox smoothness.

After saying all that I own a ps3 and have been a ps fan from day 1. I prefer the controller setup, use blueray for movies (occasionally), an enjoy free online gaming, and its a great media centre, and it takes standard hard drives that you can cheaply upgrade if desired.

Good luck on whatever you buy.

Blu-ray is the reason I originally got the PS3 even though I now probably use it more for gaming. I have been building up a nice little Blu-ray collection though. If you don't have a stand-alone Blu-ray player, the PS3 was, and still seems to be, the most future proof one (even was able to go to 3D playback with a firmware upgrade).

But as helpful as a wireless modem may be, I find being plugged in is better for online gaming (I have a 50 ft. cable running to it from my router).

i might end up with one, and i totally agree with you on your wireless opinion...
wired broadband plus i use a plug-in arcade stick.

it's proven that being wired is faster, even if it's just ONE FRAME...

well, that mostly only matters in fighting games...
so wireless is great for everything else.

Before I switched to being plugged in, I noticed my connection got dropped very often when I used wireless for SF4 (since the connection is between the 2 players), so its not just the speed. Also useful for big downloads.
