Beta saves never carry over.
But if it was a save from 7.13 and this version yes they have fixed. I had that issue

There was no safe from a previous version, I deleted everything before installing and making a new safe with 0.7.14. That's why I wonder, what happened. Just like in beta2 my settings are preserved and the "andrors-trail" directory is preserved as well. This safe was successfully loaded at least 10-12 times, including OS reboots between the saves. What happened?

what is the last entry of your quest log in Climbing up is forbidden? If you really show the Ortholion's sign to his henchmen, then they will disappear (so not a bug) and you must follow the next entry saying,

what is the last entry of your quest log in Climbing up is forbidden? If you really show the Ortholion's sign to his henchmen, then they will disappear (so not a bug) and you must follow the next entry saying,

I reported to the general's henchmen about his plans. Now, I should hurry to the Elm mine.

Looks like you haven't finish all of the BWM quests then
