No.
Skillpoints remain and can be spent in the same way they are at the moment but instead of earning 1 skillpoint every 4 levels you earn 1 skillpoint every time your skillpoint xp hits its maximum level.
So instead of having one xp bar you have two, one bar for levels and one bar for skillpoints.
The player has a sliding scale in the options menu which determines the ratio at which xp is divided between skillpoints and levels.
If the player wants to dedicate all xp towards earning skillpoints then he gets no levelling xp, just skillpoints. we could have it default to a 4-1 ratio, unless adjusted the players xp will go to levelling 4 times as much as to skillpoints. so for every 4 levels he would gain one skillpoint.
This needs further discussion though as we would have to determine how much xp is needed to level up skillpoints etc.

Hmmm interesting. I was thinking you use a skill point to unlock the skill and XP to determine the effectiveness of the skill. The more XP you put to the skill the better the level the skill is till you mastered it.

If the main concern is abusing Quick Learner, how difficult would it be coding-wise to put a restriction on Quick Learner like "can only be increased when player level is a multiple of 4"?

Possibly the skill QL becomes redundant if this concept is implemented after deep thought. I really love this idea. Right now I am mostly leveling up because I want all L/E items and because of the skill points, not because I want to be level 100 per se. I don't need all those hp with my BC and DR, the only advantage is the extra AD. Grown from 26-33 to the current 38-45. I can imagine this is no different for others...
Makes it even possible to stay at a certain level. But it might be necessary to put a minimum level on certain skills with such a system, to prevent a level 1 running around with HH 25, WA 25, etc.

That's my kind of character.
Yes level restrictions would be a must if this was added.
Like you can get the 1st skill point in a skill at level 1 but to put in a second you would need to be level XX first. That way players would have to be leveling both Skill and Stats (not necessarily evenly but balanced)

This was an older post but I had an idea that might ressurect this. Instead of gaining skills based on levels what if players gained skill points based off of XP? Instead of gaining a SP every 4 levels you would gain a SP for the Z XP amount. That would mean higher level players would be able to gain more than one SP per level without grinding endlessly for levels for nothing. This could also help Quick learner because it could be used to lower the XP amount to gain skills, or another skill could be added to lower the amount of skills.
Quick Learner - Gain levels faster
Skillful - Gain skills faster
Just an idea not sure if it is worth anything.
