My question is: is there a line of dialogue in either Blackwater or Prim that tells you the code? Or is that something you just need to search the forums for, kinda like the legendary items? I'd suggest adding something inside the game to tip off new players. Also, some sort of hint about the legendary items near the places they are might be helpful.
I don't recall seeing anything about the code in-game. But I also didn't find it hard to guess. Personally I enjoy being challenged.

Maybe the sign of missing people's names is a hint though (last letter of each name matches color names or something maybe?) - I think there were four names, so...
As for items, I can see a "x item was lost in y place" dialouge. It'd add some to the story by making a legendary item feel a bit more legendary. I wouldn't want too much said though since I wouldn't want any of the challenge removed and it is fun to find stuff too.

What is wrong with a little bit of work? Finding the "code" I.e. the color sequence is not that difficult.

But if you the player don't know there's something there in the first place, why try different color sequences at all? When I get the update, I play without checking out the forums till I've done all the quests I can find (I abandoned the Kazual temple because of the dark. I was actually looking on the forums to see if anyone knew where I could find a torch.) When I got to the colored stones, I stepped on each one but left them when nothing happened. Maybe if the guard gave a hint Throdna is back there or something that'd satisfy me. Just saying, puzzles without a reason for a player to solve the puzzle are more secret knowledge not puzzles.

Its been awhile, but I believe somebody does hint that you need to figure out the "puzzle". I am not bragging, but I figured that out the very first attempt.

There is a posting on this forum giving the code but I'll help because I'm kind.
Jump 3 times on orange, hop on one leg on purple, wave your weapon over blue and finally drop 10 small rocks on orange. Hope this helps.

When I first stepped into one of the stones, I noticed the color of the room had changed, so after that, I just tried different combos to see what would happen. I didn't have to read about it here or anything, so I disagree that you need to have known where it would lead.
The only thing I can see people not knowing about without reading about them is the legendary and extraordinary items because even if you get one the first time through an area, you wouldn't realize how rare it is or how lucky are were to get one.

Hahaha if only! Where is the one leg button! Lol.
I worked out the code first time. A little trial and error never hurts.
As Mino has beaten me to posting, I was about to say the same thing. I noticed the room changing colour and worked out the rest from there.

To me a guard was excessive (even for Blackwater) if there was no more there. The room changing I was suprised at but knew before then too. They aren't very welcoming up there compared to most others, but barring entrance over what appeared to be nothing seems too much for even that mountain IMO, so I felt sure there was more.

If you don't know, you probably can't get it yet. I don't know where you are on progress, so it might be a little ways off still. Once you do the open quests you have it should be obvious though.
