Back to the original topic, is the Dark Blessing of the Shadow worth more than the XP or the Dark Protector? That's one question I've been unable to make up my mind about.

Ending up with all combat-inflicted negative effects (poison, fear, weakness, etc) 5% less often seems like it could be a big deal. But so is a decent helmet or an extra level around level 30 (or whenever you do the Involuntary Carrier quest).

I keep going back and forth.

You can replace a helmet. You can get xp through spending more time killing monsters. You cannot replace a unique skill unlock.

Very true, but a higher level or better armour can make the skill unlock less relevant — if you kill monsters faster and/or are harder to hit, you may experience negative effects more than 5% less often.

I take that helmet nine times out of 10

I usually do as well, because it will be a while before I can get such a good helmet otherwise. I have to decide right now (permadeath, so no going back), and I think I'll try the blessings again, just to see if they seems to make a difference through Remgard.

Hopefully I'll get to that decision again one day. I'll choose the blessing for sure. (still trying to survive long enough to build a permadeath-no-food-nor-potions monk to run through arulir mountain or sullengard)

That's bold. It's hard enough just getting a permadeath no-bonemeal character through to Sullengard.

I'm trying since somewhere around 0.7.14.
I'm dying a lot. I'm grinding even more.
My current character is called "Monc Hichi CXLIX".
Best I managed was to get killed in the gate-Tower of guynmart Castle at lvl 50 (with one rols, and I only saw a handful of idregh, to get one nescessary poison gland,…)

Sometimes I think, this starts to be a little tiring.

That's better than I've done permadeath with weapons — my record, I think, is level 46 (though I'm at 43 with the current one and going strong).
