Who is to say that it has to be metal? Why not use something that is truly unique to AT and build armor and weapons from that. For instance the Oegyth crystal armor and weapon set. Kazaulian armor/weapons, Elytharian armor/weapons. If the old gods used to be actual living breathing creatures then why couldn't their bodies be farmed for a substance that could be used to make weapons. As an example Native Americans used to make many tools and weapons from the bones of the buffalo that they killed.

In my description of the merging of Silvanum & Heartsteal, Elythara was involved in the process - in fact without Elythara, Delrin Graybeard - despite being the greatest dwarven Smith of all time - would've been unable to merge the two legendary metals.
