The use of a d-pad is currently completely optional... I don't see any reason for that to change.

I'm just offering suggestions for more layouts, particularly as they would make playing easier on my relatively large-screened phone.

yeah, i could see screen size working both ways...
for & against the player - depending on size, naturally.

i DO think its good work though,
and im glad this point came up!

good for Oskar & team to see both sides of the issue.
if a pad would help, i think the most recent post / idea is the strongest.

i think ANYTHING done to advance the game is incredible.
and thanks for opening my eyes to the plight of big screens out there.

best of luck getting the most useful update possible!
happy hunting, friends!!!

I just revised my post http://andorstrail.com/viewtopic.php?f= ... =20#p10828 to add the landscape version of the layout.

Here it is, so you won't have to go back :)

it was smart to keep it off to the side like that,
i dont like how much of the screen we lose when going landscape...
(not a d-pad issue, but take note of the improved screen ratio!)

i like it!!!
im thinking pad on the left side though
(nit-picking)

excellent work, sir! 8-)

Why? 90% of humans are right-handed.

100% of the controllers on Earth have a D-pad on the left side.

unless its a gag, or a custom that no one would buy...

That is because controllers require 2 hands to hold and the buttons that require more dexterity (A & B) are on the right. I play the game with my right-hand only, in verticsl display. I never play in horihorizontal display so I don't care. I wont use the d-pad either.

You made my point for me - if ur playing landscape / ur using two hands...

ergonomically - i assume most would hold tighter with the left hand (controlling mvmnt)
and a little looser with the grip on the right hand / for accurate attack & escape selection.

then again, im pretty freakin hardcore when it comes to gaming!
so i MAY have taken this too far - but i dont think i have...

essentially, a righty will use her right thumb for accuracy NOT casual pressing
IMHO

casal = moving [d-pad] LEFT & accuracy = attacking [B & A buttons] RIGHT

FYI - i play in portrait, not landscape - so this wont effect me either...
but i do ask that you consider the players that do choose landscape.
im just trying to think of every aspect of this game,
and a functional landscape layout would be pleasant. :D

The problem with putting the d-pad on the left is that the functional buttons would/should also go on the left too as you cannot have the d-pad on the left and function buttons on the right as this would take up way to much room.
Also, having the buttons on left goes right back to my dexterity point. I wouldn't want to open and shut the quick item chests with my left thumb.

By the way, the HP & level bars look ridiculous vertically. They couldn't possibly stay that way.

well said tek, on both points...

splitting up the functions on to both sides would eat up too much space

and the hp/xp guage does look silly, but it IS more functional
