I think there are great ideas in here.
Giving each merchant a percentage for each item category should be fairly easy to code.
At 0%, he doesn't buy. Other percentages are applied to the base price.
A real dynamic economy however is much more complicated to do. It would also make the save files grow a lot, and add quite a number of computation (less performance and/or more power consumption).
But if it can be done correctly it could add great depth to the game. Consider it a +0.75 from me.

As for biggebi save files I don't think the files would increase dramticly maybe just a Tad bit

None of my save files are bigger than 25kB, so I don't care if they double (or triple) in size.

If i remember correctly the size of the save files for the game was decreased not too long ago.

Your right Pyro because they combined the maps with each game
