so, to summarize the general consensus of ideas added to my original post; we'd want a flaming sword that gives a chance of dropping cooked meat, rather than regular meat, but which also has a chance to incinerate any and all drops completely.
that sounds like a fair and balanced gamble to me.
give it either a decent hit chance, OR a small addition to critical chance OR critical damage, and i think it'd be a weapon worth grinding through some hundreds of (Very hard monsters to be named later)s to attain.
having settled that, i will now post a topic with ideas for providing a source of kosher meat into my diet.
