My view is you find the Ring, you put it on your finger and you never take it off.
There should be no other way than grinding to the death in the gargoyle caverns. Invest in magic finder grind and you will eventually get one.

Good luck.

Thanks! I sometimes think I just try making things harder than I have to. And analyze too much (if that can happen). As for Magic Finder, I'm not too sure it'd help. Unless it can lower the drop rate so far it's always a guaranteed drop, it's a chance either way, so I guess one can get Magic Finder and it only take their points but never pay off. Not saying it doesn't help some, just that it might be worthless to someome unless it isn't capped. :D

As an applying member of the "too cool for the RoLS" club (if it gets started :D ) I feel there's enough new items in the new update that have similar effects, if not quite the same.

Stats of the RoLS (taken from the Legendary Items topic):
Attack chance: 25%
Attack damage: 4-7
Critical chance: 6%
Block chance: 5%

I'm leaving out the Regeneration part since that is unique to this ring (outside of the skill).
The Polished ring of backstabbing has close to the same stats:
AC: 21% (only 4 less)
AD: 4 (same as the guaranteed minimum of the RoLS)
CC: 7% (1 higher than RoLS)

There's also the Villain's ring:
AC: 25% (same as RoLS)
AD: 3-6 (only 1 less than the RoLS' potential damage)
doesn't offer any extra CC but it also raises Max HP +4

I've got my guy wearing 1 of each. I would consider using a 2nd PRoB, but I don't have one and don't want to leave the Iqhan caves to buy one right now. Might get one later.

tl;dr version: there's some good substitutes for the RoLS if you don't want to grind for it, so I'm ok with leaving the drop rate as is, and if you don't get one, that's just how it is. I'm hoping my 10 Magic Finder skills will help when I eventually go back to the gargoyle caves though :geek:

Actually, regeneration is no longer unique to the ring, it comes with a weapon too (shadow of the slayer). True it regenerates after a kill, not on a timer, but the same is true for the skill.

I like the ring, basically it'1 cc vs' 4ac, 3more max af, 5bc, and 1 hp every several seconds, I think every 6. To me it's worth it. And I don't think it matters too much. Just prefer to have it and i'm sure there are others that don't care and it was just an idea for people who can't move on without it

There's actually 2 separate skills.

Corpse Eater gives you +1 HP on every kill - this is the same as Shadow of the slayer.
Regeneration gives you +1 HP on every round - this is the one that is the same as RoLS

So if you use the Polished ring of backstabbing and have the Regeneration skill, you essentially have all the effects of the RoLS. What makes the RoLS great is that it gives you a lot in 1 item, and I still plan to hunt for one after I'm done grinding in the Iqhan caves.

Even if Oskar didn't want us spending countless hours trying to get one, it gives us something to do between updates, so I don't see it as a chore. If I didn't want to try for it, I could just take a break from the game - in theory anyway since I can't actually seem to stop playing for very long.

Sorry. Obviously I need to read the skill listen again to see if I missed anything else.

I'll never add regeneration, but I should still have remembered it existed. Corpse Eater I did put a point in, but only since there's no natural healing over time and such healing makes some sense to me.

People only camp out for days/hours/weeks to get the ROLS because they know it exists (via these forums). With that being said, I feel it would make sense to have a ridiculously hard to beat creature somewhere in the game who drops such an item. Perhaps this creature is only accessible after certain missions have been cleared and beating the creature is optional.

I imagine this creature to be somewhat like the Iqhan boss or harder. Finding out about these items then having to grind for them aimlessly takes away from the game IMO. If i had to level up my character and configure my character in a special manner to beat a particular boss, that would be far more interesting and wouldnt imprison me into a particular area.

The grinding in caves, whether it be Gargoyle, Iqhan or the icy Wyrm caves, is mostly just something to do between updates if you've already finished the quests than can be completed, and gone as far as possible in the not-yet-complete ones.

Having a difficult to obtain item as a possible reward just helps provide motivation to keep going. Gaining XP, and now the added benefit of that leading to more skill points is another strong motivator for quite a few of us, and the friendly competition of the High Score topic doesn't hurt.

The other choice is to not play between updates, but based on other posts, I don't think I'm just speaking for myself when I say that's not really a choice. :geek:
