It was an interesting experiment, but I think it adds a lot of gameplay complexity, and can be counter-intuitive. I don't see it merged anytime soon.
I am not, however, ruling out ranged weapons completely. I just can't think of a gameplay that would be easy to use, as fun as today, yet doesn't destroy the game's balance.

I was hoping that it wouldn't make it in as it just doesn't feel like a natural fit to me as the game mechanics weren't built with range fighting in mind.

I like this for AT 2 since most sequels have some sort of engine upgrade.

Although I won't resign my fate completely yet, I can certainly try to slip in incremental changes along the way.
