Don't make it too complex. While 'rijackson741' suggestion sounds interesting, it seems to be rather complex. Also cooking. IMO simply exchange small healing potions for meat with snakes. The lower healing effect might balance the increased experience points. Early on snakes (healing points) are essential but later on nobody will still go after them.
It might be reasoned that snake venom is actually used for making drugs.
I was thinking of making it more complex . I like the idea of cooking, and I agree with Zukero that quests should be more than just "bring these ingredients". So maybe the potion maker mixes the broth for you, but that's just an uncooked broth that does nothing, and the potion maker has no way to cook it for you. But north of the graveyard there's an empty house that isn't used for anything at the moment. Unless there are other plans for it, put a stove in there, and the last part of the quest (and a requirement for all subsequent "broths of healing" ) could be to go there and cook the broth. If what you had to do wasn't made too obvious, then the additional step would add enough to the quest to make it worth a fair amount of XP when you succeeded.
If you want something good, you have to work for it
I too like that more than just snakes dropping ready-to-use potions.
Btw: you need something to fill the broth in. Are there monsters in the starting areas that drop empty vials?

Er... too complex for beginners... don't forget what it was to be one!
I'd say - let snakes also drop healing potions - in decent numbers... not very rare...

Yes there are NPCs in Flagstone Prison that drop empty vials
(Further down the line the NPCs on Blackwater Mountian drop tons of bottles)
And the potion maker in Fallhaven sells empty bottles as well as potions

Fellow ATians, let's focus on 'simplicity' for the New Players' sake

I wasnt here when meat was instant heal, but Food poisoning and constantly resting is one of the things that gets annoying.
HOWEVER I feel like you shouldnt flat out get rid of sustenance, but maybe reduce it to 10 rounds, and heal for 3 on consumption?

Welcom in to the realm of AT, remember that this game is a masterpiece in progrss..
I've haven't heared anything about how to improve the situation. So far I haven't played Andor's Trail but don't like to wait much longer. I'm considering removing Andor's Trail from my smartphone to make room for other games. Sorry.
