Just checked the gear list, no items have any detail of what wood they are made out of.

My inserting is that oak and other hardwoods were the good stuff. Iron bands improved them. Commoners might have been stuck with pine, which didn't protect as well.

At any rate, you have creative license to describe them :)

Well since I'm very strong on the idea the idea of the "community" I'll wait to see if we can collectively reach a consensus on what is made of what. (Unless I'm directed otherwise from the main dev team)

There are quite a few animals/Beasts in A.T. that would probably have skin thick enough to make a decent armor out of. The Beastiary would be a good place to look for some ideas.

I have played a lot of AT and have not once had to grind cows. So the leather clearly comes from the Arulir, or possibly the Maonit trolls. All I know is that in Crossglen the farm animal of choice are beetles.

I remember reading that there were going to more domesticated animals around the cities/town. And the general leather could not be arulirs because objects that are made from them say so. ie: Arulir Skin Gloves. (Awesome gloves)

General leather is of course made of boars.
Boots are even dropped directly by them,
without having to be cobbled.

I think the boars make them, they they have pleanty of time to kill.

But the only domesticated "hide bearing" animal is sheep, tinlyn has some, and I think there are sheep elsewhere as well.
