Go check out the basket in your room in crossglen or the basket in Prim.

I found a basket in each with a little gold, but can't find any way to make a deposit. Am I missing a step?

Maybe I'm supposed to "drop" the items in the basket? If so, that could be my problem. I can't figure out how to drop anything.

Go into your inventory and long press on an item and select 'drop' from the pop up window when you are over the b basket.
