Since it doesn't seem like you've done all the available quests, I recommend looking through the quest list posts in this section and comparing it with your own quest log to see if there's any you haven't started yet.
As for amrour, some monster can get a critical hit, or cause conditions, so the 1 DR doesn't really help. The superior leather armor is also good because it has the highest BC without any AC penalty. There's also Villain's leather armor if you have a critical hit weapon.
It doesn't seem like you've tried every path going north, because one of them works and will get you to Loneford and the guard tower. Happy hunting!

The way that quests work, is that if there was eventually a quest to kill someone that you have already killed, the condition for the quest will have been met and the quest will be completed. So, no worries about ruining a future quest by killing him.
